Our Bedding

We now have two options Natural Washable Quilts and Organic Wool Doonas.  

 Both are as natural and chemical free as possible.  I’ll try and explain the difference so you can make an informed decision.

 The organic doonas

• the wool is from certified organic farms
•  the wool has been cleaned in biodegradable detergent
•  the unbleached cotton fabric is GOTS certified
•  they are fluffier than the quilts.
•  they are also compostable at the end of its life
• made on the farm in Woodend Australia
• air in the sun seasonally

 -Natural washable quilts

•   The wool is from New Zealand and has been tested to be chemical free
•  They are flatter smoother look then the doonas.
•  The cotton is a tougher standard cotton fabric then the organic one
• It is not compostable because the threads are polyester.
• they machine washable on a delicate cycle with a wool detergent

We spend 1/3of our life in bed. Why not make this comfortable and a healthy experience. Plastic and chemical free.

Washable explained 

Other machine washable quilt on the market are treated with a chlorine-Hercosett process. Soaking the wool in a chlorinating agent and then a Hercosett resin, which is a polymer that coats the wool fibres making them smooth. This process causes a gas reaction, making it environmentally hazardous. It also reacts with the wool making it smelly so then the wool has to be treated with an ordorizer to neutralize smells. 

Our washable quilts are not treated like this. The wool is washed twice in hot water and biodegradable detergent to preshrink it. The wool is needled more than the organic doonas to stabilise it making it sturdier so it can handle a gentle cold machine wash.  That’s it!

Our organic wool is also cleaned in biodegradable detergent, but we aim for a plusher doona so the wool is only lightly needled to stabilize it beforehand sewing into the organic cotton cover. With these we recommend air in the sun seasonally and spot wash if need be.

Our aim at Wool Valley is to tread lightly on the earth. Reducing chemicals in manufacturing reduces chemicals in our home and the environment.

Organic cot wool doonas 

 A baby is even more sensitive than you are to the effects of chemicals in their environment, through their delicate, thin skin, and their brand new respiratory system. Especially for babies, choosing organic bedding is an investment in the health of your baby. Cot doonas are summer only, 

Our pillows

The organic and natural pillows follow the same fabric and wool description as the organic doonas and natural quilts do. The organic pillows are made to size - kids, soft, standard and firm in all shapes and sizes as we can custom make here on the farm.

The natural pillows are made to be adjusted to suit the sleeper, with a zip on the side of the quilted cover, the wool inside is in little balls, so you can fluff it up remove or add wool and clean the cover. They are versatile and made to last.
